Mohammmed Ali Walajah

Nawab Mohd.Ali Wallajah  (1717-1795) in a painting by Tilly  Kettle around 1772. He supported the  British  in their Deccan  campaigns. He was the most  celebrated of the Arcot  Nawab.  Wallajah  Road, Walajapet and Wallajabad are named after  him.  Constructed the Chepauk Palace in 1768 at great cost. Big mosque was constructed around 1795 at the  fag end of his rule. Died in October  1795 and was buried in a mosque in Tiruchirapalli.
